Screenplay Synopsis

Jimmy Johnson and Shelly Anderson don't fit in at the prestigious Potomac Preparatory Academy. Jimmy would do anything to fit in, but he doesn't meet many of the superficial guidelines set by the "in" crowd: he's Afro-American and poor. But for Shelly it's different, people accept him, but he rejects their superficiality. Left to themselves, Shelly and Jimmy become friends.

When Jared, the leader of the "in" crowd, steals a note from Jimmy and puts it in his locker, Shelly gets the idea to steal the locker combinations, which the school keeps in a notebook in the school bookstore for emergencies. Shelly's smart enough to figure out how to do it, and Jimmy's reckless enough to go through with it.

Their prank to get even with Jared quickly turns into a school wide panic. Jimmy and Shelly did not understand the seriousness of their crime. In a last ditch effort, Shelly and Jimmy try to return the combinations, but they get caught. The principal tries to divide their allegiance to each other, trying to get one to blame the other. But they withstand her barge of questions and won't turn against each other, their friendship has grown too strong.
